About Event

The maiden edition of the Pearl Oncology Symposium gathers global cancer experts in breast cancer control to promote practical knowledge transfer, sharing of clinical resources and best practices in Nigeria.
Breast cancer rates in Nigeria are increasing rapidly, predominantly of aggressive subtypes with poor prognosis and outcomes. In 2020, Nigeria recorded 28,380 new breast cancer cases and 14 274 breast cancer-related deaths.

To tackle the growing breast cancer burden, the symposium aims to strengthen the regional network of cancer specialists through peer-to-peer learning on critical areas that span
  • Early detection and diagnosis
  • Timely access to treatment and care
  • Multidisciplinary tumour board
Driven by the theme,“Improving Breast Cancer Care through mHealth and Multidisciplinary Tumour Boards” , the 2022 symposium will be a combination of exclusive on-site events and virtual components.

Event Program

The Pearl Oncology Symposium program will feature two inspirational plenary sessions focusing on the intersection of optimal breast cancer care, digital health interventions and multidisciplinary tumour boards.

These high-level sessions offer cutting-edge speakers who spark innovative thinking and promote excellence in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. The symposium will feature patient voices, with breast cancer survivors sharing their experiences and drawing on that experience to improve the treatment outcomes for current and future patients. An inaugural women in oncology panel session will spotlight a community of women to enhance collaboration on professional development, personal growth, and patient care.

This 1-day symposium aims to:

  • Foster regional collaboration and overcomes hurdles for implementing multidisciplinary breast tumour boards.
  • Disseminate the multidisciplinary tumour boards' experience
  • Foster regional action and effect of the cancer community on a regional level in South Western Nigeria.
The Symposium will take place on 14 December 2022 in the metropolitan city of Lagos, where Pearl Oncology Clinic has three clinical sites in Lekki, Gbagada and Ojo.
